Last Space Shuttle Mission

How does this affect you? Are we giving up something that the USA has "Owned" for almost 40 years? How do you feel about NASA not replacing the Shuttles with a newer vehicle?

Well, considering our current financial crisis... the HUGE deficit... talk of cutting funding for many programs that are vital to some peoples' lives...
I think it's OK for us to stop sending huge, expensive, polluting(ever check to find out what gets spewed out of the tail-end of a rocket motor?) Hunks of metal into space. Afterall, is there a point to it? Not like we are moving into space anytime soon... right?

my thoughts exactly, tony...there are so many other things right down here on earth that need addressing...what strides have been made to help things here on earth that are the direct result of space missions?...i'm not familiar with too much of the NASA program, so I'd be interested in knowing

What I would like to see is some actual progress from all that money they spent. I understand they are researching the long term effect of people living in space, but what about going to Mars or say we setup a base on the Moon? Something that would show promise that we aren't trapped on this rock forever.
